Theatre on Main Is Proud to Announce its Exciting 2010-2011 Season!

    Psych

    Directed by Katie Danner

Back by popular demand, Theatre on main welcomes to its stage the hilarious comedy Psych.  Written by local playwright Lisa Rowe, this “Theatre on the Fly” production is packed with side-splitting antics and a storyline that make its audiences laugh uncontrollably!  Edward Baxter was a successful psychiatrist beloved by his many patients; until he was framed for muder.  Now on the lam with an assumed identity and a suspicious new wife, his luck is running out.  Edward seeks help from fellow psychiatrist Robert Smith, a man with inner demons of his own.  When Edward’ s meeting with Robert goes wildly awry and leaves Edward clinging precariously to his last shred of sanity, Robert’s patient  Lydia, a somewhat absentminded but good-hearted psychic woman, arrives for her appointment and finds Edward in “big trouble.”  Despite the chaos created by unexpected visitors and quirks in her psychic powers, Lydia does her best to gain Edward’s trust and help him find justice as his world rapidly approaches critical mass.  Deception, phobias and love collide in this fast-paced suspense comedy.  You must experience it to believe it!

    September 10-11, 17-18, 2010 at 7:30pm.

    The Odd Couple

    Directed by Karen E. Kruger

Theatre on main kicks off its 2010-2011 Main Stage season with Neil Simon’s 1965 Broadway hit comedy The Odd Couple!  This classic comedy opens as a group of guys have assembled for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison.  And if the mess is any indication, it’s no wonder that his wife left him.  Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just separated from his wife.  Fastidious, depressed and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born!

October 22-23, 29-31, and November 5-7, 2010.  Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:00pm.  No show on Sunday, October 24th.

    Main Street Idol 2010

    Produced by  Zach Woods

The New Year starts off with a bang as Main Street Idol 2011 returns to Theatre on main as part of its “Theatre on the Fly” series in mid-January for its third exciting season!  Whether you enter the contest or come to cheer on your favorite singer, Theatre on main is the place to be for the fun and excitement of this vocal talent competition.

     Exact dates and times TBA.

    Love Letters

Love is in the air as Theatre on main invites you to join them for a very special “Theatre on the Fly” Valentine’s treat, A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters.  Starring in this emotionally riveting Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominated play once again in their recurring roles are Carl Liden as Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, and local playwright, Lisa Rowe, author of Psych, as Melissa Gardner.  Both born to wealth and position, they become childhood friends whose correspondence begins with birthday party thank you notes and summer camp postcards, and continues throughout their multi-faceted lives.  Melissa, who hates writing letters, is portrayed as rich and spoiled, with a private nurse and private schools, artistic, certainly lascivious, divorced, eventually alcoholic, bi-polar, and suicidal.  Andy Ladd is square, destined for Yale, a naval officer, a lawyer, and a U.S. Senator, and says that “writing letters is what he loves most.”  Love Letters is a very powerful play that is sure to stir emotions and touch your heart!

    February 4-5, 11-13, 2011.  Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sunday, February 13th at 2:00pm.

    Cinderella

    Directed by Karen E. Kruger

Theatre on main is proud to have gracing its stage Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical Cinderella!    This timeless classic was originally released by CBS as a TV movie on March 31, 1957 and starred the cherished singer and actress Julie Andrews.  The musical debuted on stage at the London Coliseum in 1958, and made its first US stage appearance in 1961.  Don’t miss seeing Cinderella come to life on stage!

    February 25-27, March 4-6, 11-13,  2011.  Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:00pm.

    Frankenstein

    Directed by Robert Parker

Frankensten was first presented at the Loretto-Hilton Repertory Theatre, in St. Louis, and then lavishly re-mounted for its New York debut.  Blending thrills and shuddering horror with moments of touching sentiment and compelling philosophical insights, the play accomplishes the singular feat of being as moving and affecting as it is terrifying.  In the words of Bruce Barcott from “The Weekly”, “Can anything be salvaged from Mary Shelley’s mistreated creature after The Munsters and I Was a Teenage Frankenstein? The answer … is yes. …Sandberg focuses all attention on questions at the heart of the story — the responsibilities of creation, the limits of science, love, misery, and revenge. …Do not go … looking for a fun fright show; expect to be challenged.”

April 1-2, 8-10, 15-17, 2011.  Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:00pm.  No show on Sunday, April 3rd.
